What are your own personal experiences with actually learning how to sing?

A

From an early age I fell in love with the music world but it wasn’t till a few years later that I decided to take singing and lessons.  Despite having many of these lessons I didn’t feel that I was really making much progress.

The lessons were quite expensive, which I could just barely afford.  More to the point I couldn’t relate with what I was being taught with what I actually wanted to sing.

Eventually I stopped the lessons, and I tried to self teach from what little knowledge I had then but only made slight improvement.

I then spent the next few years studying and analysing as many singers as possible from amateurs trying their luck in talent contests, which I love by the way, to semi pros, and pros right up to the very best world recording artists.

I had read just about everything I could find about singing.  Then some time ago I discovered some interesting singing programs which of course I bought.

What was your honest opinion on what you found?

A

I was a little sceptical to begin with but thought I’d check them out anyway to be perfectly honest most of them weren’t anything special in fact some were just downright dire.  Fortunately there were some that didn’t just live up to their hype they really surpassed it.   These are the programs that you will find at musicsoundwords.com.

This is one of the biggest mistakes a lot of singers make, trying to sound like somebody else unless you are going to be a tribute singer to that particular Artist.  One of the major problems with this is somebody has already got there before you and done it.  Always remember once you have developed your own unique style no one can sound as much like you as yourself.

Everyone says I have a great voice is it really worth the effort to try my luck at one of the big TV Talent shows like American Idol or the X Factor

A

Yes absolutely, despite being a huge fan of these shows I did state earlier that I love the amateur singers who are trying desperately to achieve stardom.

More importantly so do millions of others, even more important out of those millions of viewers there are of course people watching who could actually launch your career.  You don’t even need to reach the final stages to have success.

It does however surprise me just how un-prepared some of the contestants really are for what is let’s face it a chance of a lifetime opportunity.

This is their big chance to show their talent on National television yet they hope for success without any real serious effort or preparation “amazing”.

The Judges are not fools and will know in an instant if you have prepared well or not.

This is their business and they do know their business very well.

Ask yourself honestly would you personally invest your time and money in someone who you don’t even know, who you thought couldn’t make a serious effort.  Remember those Judges are not friends at your local karaoke bar, but they could change your life forever.
